Session Eighty-Two: Uncertainty

Alaxadner explained to Lilith, that he did not believe the Lord of the Many could be destroyed. In addition, they needed it to destroy the Tyrant of Tyr. Lilith calmed down, but did not want the Lord of the Many near her.
Jessel informed the group that he was being summoned by the lords of earth and had to leave. The group said their goodbyes and Jessel stepped through a dimensional door. Nyla asked if his sudden disappearance was normal and the group said it was.
Raco and Shade decided to scout ahead of the group and look for a proper volcano entrance. They jogged ahead, while the rest of the group walked casually in the same direction. Whenever Shade and Raco thought they saw something, Raco would become a living shadow and Shade would hide.
Despite several scares, they did not encounter anyone for a few hours. They finally spotted a cave, carved into the side of the volcano. There were four firenewts guarding the entrance.
Raco turned and started making his way back to the group, but Shade decided to take a closer look. Shade moved closer, but stepped on a patch of loose gravel and slipped. The noise alerted the firenewt guards, who turned toward him. The firenewts threw javelins at Shade, who dodged them. Shade ran away, as more firenewts spilled from the volcano entrance.
The firenewts did not chase Shade very far and he escaped. When he and Raco met up with the rest of the group, no one had any idea what they should do next. They made multiple plans, but would discard them after a few minutes. In the end, they decided they needed more information. They finally agreed to have Alaxander use the way, to teleport, and scout the island.

First, Alaxadner wanted to scout the giant's stone fortress a bit. He teleported close to it. The walls were not built in a sophisticated manner, stacked stones with no mortar, but it looked strong and sturdy. He also saw grimlocks patrolling the wall, which confirmed that the giant and the grimlocks were working together. He was spotted by the guards, so he teleported away.
He had teleported further away from the group, past the fortress. There, he encountered a large mudflat, which was being farmed by the grimlocks. He also saw large pits, with bazraags near the mudflat. The grimlocks were feeding the baazrags. Near the pens, were low stone houses, half buried in the ground. Once again, he was spotted, so he teleported back to the group.
He told the group what he had found. They discussed what to do next, but could not come to an agreement. The sun started to touch the horizon, so the group looked to Shade, to find them a safe place to sleep.
Shade was unable to find a defensible place to sleep, so he found a large flat obsidian slab to sleep on. It would prove to be a good look out post, for the one who kept watch. Trusting in his wilderness survival skills, the group unrolled their bedrolls and went to sleep.
Alaxander took the first watch, and it wasn't long, before he spotted some firenewts on patrol. He watched them and they easily spotted him. The firenewts, along with some frilled flame lizards, started making their way toward the group.
Thinking quickly, Alaxander used the way to frighten them. The firenewts stopped moving and took defensible positions. After a few minutes of Alaxander exaggerating his power, the firenewts turned and fled back to the volcano.
After Alaxander's watch, he woke Nayla. He explained what had happened with the firenewts and Nyla said she would watch vigilantly. Alaxander layed down and Nyla began her watch. Her watch passed slowly and she did not see the firenewts return. When her time to watch was done, she woke Raco and warned him of the firenewt threat.

Day 25, Week 2, Macro, Friend's Vengeance, 190th King's Age, Sun Descending

Halfway into Raco's watch, he noticed a large group moving toward their position. There were firenewts and frilled flame lizards. There were many more than had be expressed to him by Nyla. He woke the rest of the group and prepared himself for battle, using the way to harden his flesh. Alaxander attempted to scare them off again, but the lizard's courage was bolstered by their numbers and they did not flee.
Battle ensued and, although the group fought bravely, wave after wave of reptiles swarmed the small plateau. The frilled flame lizards shot lines of fire, which did not harm the firenewts, but cooked the tablelanders. The firenewts attacked with stone spears, psionics, clerical magic, and they spit balls of magma at them. The group began to fear that they would have to flee.
The tablelanders were feeling their wounds and the fatigue of battle, but they refused to give up. The fight was long and difficult, but in the end, the tablelanders were victorious. They abandoned their blood soaked plateau and settled elsewhere. The group patched themselves up, to the best of their ability, and used what little healing magic they had. They continued to sleep in shifts and keep watch. They strongly hoped that another army of firenewts was not on the way.
