Turkey, Fire

In honor of Thanksgiving, the United States holiday, I gave stats for the Athasian Turkey, which is mentioned in the Veiled Alliance sourcebook. This year, I present the fire aspected form of the terrible beast.

Fire Turkey

Fire turkeys are native to the Elemental Plane of Fire. They sometimes find themselves on Athas, due to natural or artificial portals. It is possible to summon fire turkeys, but most spellcasters powerful enough to do so rarely bother.
Fire turkeys are able to fly and prefer to nest on rocky outcroppings. Their flight is in short bursts, being forced to land every 1d4 rounds.
Fire turkeys have excellent eyesight and reduce, by 5%, a character's chance of hiding in shadows and are only surprised on a roll of 1 or 2.

Combat
Unlike many other types of turkey, fire turkeys do not flee from combat, they relish it. The fire turkey can use their serrated beak to attack, which inflicts 1d6 points of damage, but it prefers to use their spells and breath weapon first. A fire turkey can breath a cone of fire, which extends out to twenty feet. This breath weapon causes 3d6 points of damage, save vs breath weapon for half damage, and may be used every 1d12 rounds.
In addition, fire turkeys have access to the following spells once per day: Affect Normal Fires, Burning Wings (Burning Hands), Flaming Sphere, Pyrotechnics, and Produce Flame.
Fire turkeys have a small aura of flame around them. An enemy using natural attacks against a flaming turkey takes 1d4 points of damage each time they successfully strike the turkey.

Habitat/Society
Fire turkeys seek the attention of females in high sun by wooing them with a special courtship dance. During this dance, male fire turkeys fan out their flaming tail in an effort to win a female. After mating, the females seek out a good nesting spot. Fire turkeys lay their eggs in ground nests, near sources of natural heat, such as a volcano. They choose nest areas that are behind rocks, or in natural craters, to help prevent detection by predators. The female fire turkey lays an egg each day in her nest for up to 11 days. The eggs take about 28 days to hatch. Baby fire turkeys are helpless for six months.
Fire turkeys cannot breed with any other type of turkey.

Ecology
Fire turkey meat is white and has an acrid taste. Most people would not willing eat a fire turkey, unless there was no other option. A fire turkey provides six pounds of meat and no feathers.
