Session Eighty-Three: On the Offensive

The group woke up and healed. They decided that they made enemies of the firenewts, so maybe they could make friends with the giant and grimlocks. Alaxander opened a dimensional gateway, which cut down their travel time significantly. They moved close enough to see grimlocks manning the walls of the giant's fortress.
Alaxander used the way to amplify his voice. He called out, in every language he knew, that they were arriving with peaceful intentions and had no desire to fight. They saw the giant peek his head up, from behind the wall, and look down at them. Grimlock archers lined up on the walls, but the group made sure they were out of bow range.
Alaxander used the way to amplify the voices of the other members of the group and they yelled out their messages of peace and alliance, in the various languages they knew. Soon, they saw the giant emerge from the fortress. He was wearing a harness that held four grimlock archers on his chest. Nyla put her hands up, palms out, to show that she was unarmed. Everyone else followed suit.
The giant approached the group and in a booming voice, it told them to follow him back to the fortress. The group did as they were asked and quickly followed the giant. They could see that the giant's harness held four more grimlock archers on the giant's back.
He lead them into the fortress. The fortress was made of large sheets and blocks of gray and brown rhyolite stone. There were bone ladders and walkways tied to the walls, with giant hair rope. The fortress looked haphazardly constructed, but sturdy.
The giant removed his harness and the grimlock archers surrounded the group. An unarmed grimlock emerged from a building and in broken Tyrian, explained to the group that their leader would like to speak to them, but they had to be unarmed. Kalino and Alaxander were the first to disarm and Raco did not carry weapons. Nyla, Shade, Kiara, and Lilith were less enthusiastic about disarming themselves, but eventually did so.
There were lead into the building, by the grimlock, and were surprised to see a bizarre looking beast. It was furless, with tawny colored scaly hide. It was five feet long and three and a half feet high. All four of its legs ended in large claws and it had huge fangs. It was more surprising when it spoke in Tyrian.
He said that his name was Brakim Yee and he was a leader of the grimlocks and giants. He explained that the firenewts were attempting to kill the grimlocks, so they can burn the mudflats and expand the volcano. He said the firenewts outnumbered his forces, probably two to one. He said that they now knew his story, and he wanted to know theirs.
They explained that they had come to the island, because the firenewts had something they needed. When Brakim Yee asked them what it was, they said it was a gemstone. They further explained that they needed it for something going on in the Tablelands. Brakim Yee knew of the Tablelands, but did not care about them. He then explained that they had a common enemy and that can make them allies. The group was quick to accept an alliance with the grimlocks, the giant, and Brakim Yee.
The group, along with Brakim Yee, began planning an attack on the firenewt volcano. What they finally decided on was this: The giant, and a force of grimlocks, would do a frontal assault on the volcano. While the firenewts were distracted, the group and a large squad of grimlocks, would use the way to get inside the volcano and attack from within. They would attack right before dawn.
The rest of the day was spent in preparation of the battle. Kalino taught the grimlocks to form battle lines and other battlefield techniques. The rest of the group also did their best to improve their allies fighting techniques.

Day 26, Week 2, Macro, Friend's Vengeance, 190th King's Age, Sun Descending

As the sky began to lighten, the group and their allies began to get ready for the upcoming battle. The giant put on bone spiked boots and carried boulders, to throw. He also wore his harness, which caried eight grimlock archers. The rest of the grimlocks grabbed their bone and stone weapons. Kalino lined them up and they began marching toward the volcano.
Upon seeing the approaching force, the firenewts spilled out of the volcano and began rushing toward the grimlock army. Fighting with the firenewts, were frilled flame lizards, and lesser magma paraelementals. As the armies clashed, the group and their grimlock allies slipped away. Alaxander used the way to open a large dimensional gateway. The grimlocks ran in first and the group followed.
They entered the large cavern, that they had entered before, and saw that the number of firenewts was greatly reduced. The grimlocks and firenewts began battling each other, so the group evaded them and ran down a natural looking tunnel. It was a little cramped and Raco had to duck.
They engaged with a small group of firenewts and easily defeated them. They then entered a chamber that had a pool of magma boiling up from the ground. A magma paraelemental rose up from the pool and began attacking the group. After a few strikes, Lilith used the way to make the elemental believe that the group was invincible. The magma elemental fled.
