Session Ninety-Eight: Mountain Dwellers

After some discussion, the group decided that Samsun would carry Raco on his back. They fashioned a harness to make Raco into a backpack. Even though Samsun was a half-giant, he found carrying the mul and a thirty gallon barrel of water troublesome, but he didn't complain.
As they climbed a mountainside, there was a rockslide. Cheet and Dimitria slid with the rolling boulders. They both were slammed against the jagged ground. Cheet was able to catch herself and find secure footing, but Dimitria kept sliding toward a mountain precipice.
Kraah swooped down, got hit by a few rocks, but was able to grab Dimitria. He could lot lift her completely, but he was able to prevent her from falling to her doom. Through bloody lips, she thanked Kraah for saving her.
Dimitria used her healing magic to heal herself. Kraah used his healing magic to heal himself and Cheet. After a brief rest, they continued on.

The group climbed up cliffs, hiked up steep rock mountainsides, and traveled around ravines. The air was becoming thinner and the group was needing to rest more often. It was also much colder than the group was used to, which made for pleasant days, but frigid nights.
As the sun was setting, the group began searching for shelter. They saw a cave opening, which they thought Samsun could squeeze into. They entered the cave and found it dry and relatively flat, a perfect place to rest. They saw remnants of a firepit, but it was quite old. They all went to sleep, except Raco, who was going to keep watch.

An hour after everyone was peacefully snoring, Raco spotted a dwarf poke his head into the cave. The dwarf was male and looked upset. Raco woke the group, with Samsun and Cheet waking slowly. Three dwarves entered the cave and demanded, in Dwarven, that the group explain what they were doing in their cave,
Raco could speak Dwarven and explained that they were travelers and that they were resting for a single night and would move on in the morning. The dwarves were not satisfied with that answer and demanded the group leave. Dimitria peeked through the cave opening and saw five more dwarves outside.
Raco became aggressive and told them that they would not leave. He then insulted the dwarves, which caused them to pull weapons. The dwarves outside, who were watching from the cave opening, pulled out their weapons as well. The dwarves were armed with various stone weapons.
Before anyone could attack, Kraah, Samsun, and Dimitria used their magic to bolster their group. Upon seeing the two elemental clerics use their magic, the dwarves halted. One of the dwarves stepped forward and demonstrated that, he too, had elemental magic.
Using Raco as a translator, the group learned that the dwarven cleric was a cleric of air. Kraah was excited and began discussing their shared element, continuing to use hand signals and other non-verbal forms of communication, when Raco ceased to translate their ongoing conversation. Dimitria and Cheet chided Raco about picking a fight. They all agreed to share the cave.
When the rest of the dwarves entered the cave, it was a tight fit. Samsun had to sleep sitting up and Raco had to stand, on his one good leg, while he kept watch. The dwarves took turns keeping a watch as well. Being claustrophobic, Kraah slept at the mouth of the cave.

Day 2, Week 1, Fifthover, Friend's Vengeance, 190th King's Age, Sun Descending

When the group woke up, most of the dwarves were still asleep. The group gathered their belongings and went outside. The two dwarves that were awake traded some tubers for bread. They then traded some cactus fruit for directions to a hidden game trail. The trail would save the group some time. The dwarf wanted to setup a long term trade agreement, trading fruit for furs, but the group wasn't interested in a business venture.

They followed the game trail for a few hours, until it changed course and went south. They climbed a cliff and continued hiked around a ravine. The mountains were more and more desolate, the higher they climbed.
While traveling slowly on a perilous cliff edge, Kraah and Cheet saw dozens and dozens of gith leaping through the mountains ahead. Cheet turned and told the group what she had seen. The group decided to retreat and hide from the gith, hoping that they had not been spotted.
