As they walked, Clavis and Yusef marveled at the strange flat snake statue and they carefully avoided the portion of the path that was an illusion. Selia spotted a blue skinned humanoid watching them from the water and quietly informed the group.
Clavis said "Where?" very loudly and looked around without subtlety. The figure that was watching them retreated into the darkness, beyond their torchlight. Rafiq called out to the humanoid and said they were not there to do him any harm. Dimitria took over the conversation and repeated what Rafiq had said. The figure moved closer.
The group could see it was a young man with black hair and black eyes. Dimitria continued to talk to him, reassuring him that they were on a quest for good and did not want to fight. The man swam closer still and Dimitria introduced the group. Clavis waved his hand awkwardly and said hi.
Dimitria told the blue man about their quest to find the Blue Shrine. The man finally spoke, in heavily accented Tyrian, and he told them that he knew the way. He also said the shrine had a guardian and she was very grumpy. Dimitria asked if he could show them the way to the shrine and the man asked them why should he.
The group put their heads together and started discussing what they could offer him. They decided to offer him some gemstones and an iron dagger, which he readily accepted. He them told them to get into the water, which the group did, albeit reluctantly. The blue man cast a spell on them and told them that they could breathe under water for a short time. The group tested this and found it to be true.
He then told them to follow him, but the group was forced to admit that they could not swim. So, the blue man had everyone hold hands and he guided them, slowly, through the water. The group saw a strange creature, a large fierce looking fish. The blue man said the creature was dangerous and took them around it. He then warned them, again, that the guardian of the Blue Shrine was grumpy and dangerous, so they should treat her with respect. The party thanked him for the information and promised to be respectful.
They swam for a little while longer and then a blue woman swam up to them. She looked older than the man and she began speaking to him in a language none of the group understood. The young man began speaking back to her in the same unknown language and showed her the iron dagger and gemstones. Even though the group could not understand the language, it was obvious that the young man and the woman were having an argument. Eventually, the woman threw up her arms in frustration and swam away. The young man apologized and continued guiding them.
After a long while, they reached an earthen sphere floating half-way into the water. There was an opening in its side. The young man told them that the blue shrine was inside the sphere. Dimitria thanked him and the group climbed out of the water. Once they were safely on the stone walkway, the blue man swam away.
The group entered the earthen sphere and saw it was half-filled with still water. The walkway gradually slopped downward, into the water. The group walked to the edge and took the sword from its cloth wrappings.
The water ripped before them and an immense serpent rose from the water. The creature looked down at them and, in their minds, they heard a voice speak them them in their native languages. It told them that she was the guardian of the shrine and then asked them why they had brought that sword to the shrine.
Dimitria explained their plan to use it to fight, and hopefully kill, the Tyrant of Tyr, Kalak. The serpent told them that the sword could assist them, but that the cost might be too great. The group hesitated, but agreed that they would pay the cost to defeat Kalak.
The serpent told them to bathe the sword in the water of the shrine for twenty four hours. At the end of that time, the sword's magic would awaken. Dimitria asked how would they know when the sword's magic was awakened and the guardian replied that they would undoubtedly know.
The guardian serpent dipped beneath the water's surface and disappeared. The group did as they were told and placed the sword into the waters of the shrine. They then made a small camp and waited.
Day 13, Week 2, Fifthover, Friend's Vengeance, 190th King's Age, Sun Descending
While the was enjoying their much needed rest, the sword suddenly started making noise from beneath the water. No bubble rose from it, but they could hear it. They looked at each other and were slightly alarmed.
Clavis retrieved the sword from the water and in a loud, raspy voice, it said that it was The Bonesaw. The Bonesaw explained that it was the greatest sword ever crafted, the cream of the crop, and the king of swords. He called Clavis a freak show and said he was ready for some play time. The group introduced themselves, but Bonesaw insulted them and kept talking about how great it was.
