Happy Independence Day to the United States of America. Today we celebrate our succession from Britain in 1776. The United States of America was founded, not on national identity or geography, but an idea. That all men are created equal and endowed by their creator with the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Today we celebrate the country we have become. A country that people around the world risk life and limb to come to. A country that has fought to remove the sins of the past. A country unlike any other.
Let us not focus today on the imperfections of our country, for which there are many. Let us focus on the triumphs. The United States of America fought a war to end slavery, to crush the nazis, and a cold war to end the evils of communism in the Soviet Union.
The United States of America is the most free counrty in the world. Let us appreciate those freedoms today and seek to increase them tomorrow. The more freedom, the more liberty, the better.
