For DM eyes only.
While residing in a city-state, a dwarf, Tarben, approaches the group and informs them that he is a slave for a minor noble. The dwarf wishes to secure his freedom and needs his master dead to do so. He begs the player characters to kill his master.
The dwarf offers the group some of his master's treasures, if they help. He promises to aid them, as long as it does not conflict with his focus. His focus is to do everything his master commands. His master has commanded him to not harm him, so he cannot be directly involved in the killing. He has also been commanded to not incite a slave revolt.
His master is particularly cruel. He tortures slaves for fun. He maims attempted runaways, then kills them slowly in a gruesome manner. He also takes delight in other horrible activities, left up to the sensitivities of the DM and their gaming group.
Tarben is sincere and wants to be free, however he will not betray his focus. If the noble demands Tarben defend him from the group, he will do so. The DM should ensure that this takes place.
